Happy Nowruz, Iranian New Year: ISOT Community

As the arrival of spring marks the beginning of a new year, ISOT Community extends its warmest wishes to all celebrating Nowruz—the ancient Persian festival of renewal, hope, and togetherness. This joyous occasion, which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years, symbolizes rebirth, unity, and the triumph of light over darkness.

The Spirit of Nowruz

Nowruz, meaning “New Day” in Persian, is more than just a calendar event. It is a time for reflection, gratitude, and new beginnings. It reminds us to embrace growth, positivity, and cultural heritage, strengthening the bonds that unite us.

At the heart of Nowruz is the Haft-Seen table, a traditional display of seven symbolic items, each representing prosperity, health, and renewal:

Sabzeh (sprouted greens) – Rebirth and growth
Samanu (sweet pudding) – Strength and patience
Senjed (dried lotus fruit) – Love and wisdom
Seer (garlic) – Protection and health
Seeb (apple) – Beauty and vitality
Somāq (sumac) – The color of sunrise, symbolizing a new beginning
Serkeh (vinegar) – Patience and wisdom

🔥 Traditions That Bring Us Together

Before Nowruz, families gather for Chaharshanbe Suri, a fire-jumping festival symbolizing purification and letting go of negativity. As we leap over the flames, we say, “Zardi-ye man az to, sorkhi-ye to az man!” (May my weakness be yours, and your strength be mine).

Another cherished tradition is Sizdah Bedar, celebrated on the 13th day of Nowruz, where people head outdoors for a picnic, embracing nature and wishing for a bright year ahead.

💙 A Message of Unity

As an international student community, ISOT takes pride in celebrating diverse cultures and traditions. Nowruz is a time to strengthen friendships, embrace new opportunities, and spread kindness. No matter where we are, this festival reminds us that renewal and hope transcend borders.

May this Nowruz bring peace, success, and happiness to you and your loved ones. Let’s welcome the new year with open hearts and a spirit of togetherness!

Happy Nowurz and New YEAR
